Notre Dame de France
Cocteau Mural
By Fiona Green
This lovely church, off Leicester Square, & in Soho's chinatown holds one of London's finest murals, by the poet & filmmakerJean Cocteau.
It is also a haven of peace & respite for London's poorest : the homeless who manage to get a sleep during the day when it is open. I am so touched, that here at least, in the heart of the cruel development of Soho, you can see real christianity at work.
If you look closely at this section of the mural you will see centre, bottom, Cocteau's self portrait & signature
